My name is Loretta. When I was 8 years old my family decided to go to a Friday night revival service at the Macedonia Baptist Church. I invited Jesus into my heart that night and I remember many of the details. The sermon was about being on God’s side and that was what I wanted. I could not wait for the sermon to be over so I could be saved. I went forward on the second verse of “There is a Fountain”. That is, of course, one of my favorite hymns today. Two weeks later I was baptized at Mt. Zion and I began my life of having Jesus as my best friend. The Holy Spirit was living inside me. I was in church every time the door was open.
Many years later in college I had a rededication experience at the age of 19. It was at this time that I gained a deeper understanding of that old hymn, “There is a Fountain”. I began a closer walk with Jesus and had four very special years with a great group of Christians through the Baptist Student Union at West Georgia College. I feel very fortunate that I have never been very far away from Jesus or the church.
Through the BSU I learned the importance of missions and being a servant. It was on a mission trip to Oklahoma City that I had my greatest answer to prayer. Meeting Al was a miracle and he has been my inspiration and my spiritual leader for 29 years. He has helped me to stay close to the Lord and enjoy the “redeeming love” that the cross offers. To sum up my testimony I would like to take a line from that old hymn that I have mentioned. It was written in 1771. It says, “Redeeming love has been my theme and shall be ‘til I die.” |
